More About the Author

Dr. Silvia Casabianca has dedicated her life to one vision: a humanity that consciously evolves from Homo Sapiens driven by fear to Homo Amandi — a species bound by solidarity and compassion.

That vision took root in the barrios and remote communities of Colombia where, as a young doctor, she learned — from those she came to serve — how fear, poverty, and disconnection erode human health from the inside out. Yet in those same communities she found a spark of hope: solidarity was not an ideal to be preached, it was a daily practice that granted survival. That revelation became the compass for everything that followed.

It led her to work with youth through Fundeijoven, to open the Carpe Diem school in Cartagena where children learned in love rather than fear, and to ask the question that has never left her: what do children need from the adults around them?

It led her to write — dabbling with community newspapers and magazines since the eighties, then daring to publish books. Her most essential works, Homo Amandi (2019) and HeartMinded: Conscious Evolution from Fear to Solidarity(2020), invite readers to reimagine how we live, love, and raise our children.

Having moved to Southwest Florida in 2000, she built community, opened the holistic center Eyes Wide Open (2008–2017), and in 2016 became a Guardian ad Litem — sitting in courtrooms advocating for children’s best interests.

Today she teaches HeartMinded Parenting, neuroscience-based parenting practices to mental health professionals. The question she first asked in the barrios of Colombia has never changed. Homo Amandi is not a utopia. It is a choice we make every day.
