As a mental health counselor, Dr. Casabianca has explored family dynamics, parenting approaches, and the effects of Western parenting practices and pedagogies. Looking at the current state of the world, she has been motivated to explore how to stimulate empathy in children.

Heartminded Parenting

In her Heartminded parenting seminars, Dr. Casabianca integrates knowledge from different developmental models (Freud, Piaget, Erikson, Hoffman, Kholberg, Gilligan) to explain how developing the capacity to love follows a sequence in which, given ideal conditions, we move from self-love to relate to others with an ethics of care.

She has been exploring how counselors and parents could embrace and adopt parenting modalities that stimulate the child’s innate empathy, which is an essential ingredient of compassion and love. Her proposal is based on the anatomy and biochemistry of love (Helen FIsher), and current neuroscience of emotional regulation.

Educating in love and not in fear

Since 1993, Dr. Casabianca has invested hours working with parents, adolescents, children, educators and counselors, exploring how inductive discipline helps children develop empathy, improve their relationships within the family and with peers, reduce bulling, and develop the courage and the wisdom Dr. Paul Gilbert consider essential to practice compassion.
